NOW OPEN: Nuc reservations for 2019

Bridgetown Bees is pleased to announce that we will again be offering nuc hives from Foothills Honey Company (located near Molalla, Oregon) and Old Sol Apiaries (located in southern Oregon, near the town of Rogue River). Both are family-run businesses that offer high quality five- and four-frame nucs (respectively). Bees have been used to pollinate almonds in California.

SOLD OUT We are also offering a limited number of Top Bar, Warré, and Medium Frame Langstroth nucs. Details below. SOLD OUT

******************************************************************* You can reserve 2019 nucs through PayPal at the bottom of this page.

Foothills Honey Company Nucs

Queen source:  Hive bees raised near Molalla, with queens from Kona Queens in Hawaii. Queens in these five-frame nucs are either hybrid Italian or hybrid Carniolan. We no longer have a choice. In our experience, both are reliable in our climate.

Price: $165 per nuc

Down payment: $50 per nuc is required to reserve your nuc (place order through PayPal at the bottom of this page or email glen@bridgetownbees.com to make other payment arrangements). The remaining balance is due at pick-up.

Pick-up dates for Foothills Honey Company nucs:

·         SOLD OUT First pick-up SOLD OUT: Saturday, April 6, 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. This date is likely but we will give you as much advanced notice as possible if it changes.

·         Second pick-up (expected): Saturday, April 20, 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. This date is likely but, again, we will give you as much advanced notice as possible if it changes.

·         Third pick-up: Saturday, May 18, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Number of frames: Five Langstroth (deep) frames of brood, honey and/or pollen (early nucs sometimes include a mostly undrawn foundation frame); there is no feeder.

Nuc box:  Bees come in white, waxed corrugated cardboard nuc boxes. There is no deposit required and the boxes do not have to be returned.

Pick-up location: 4209 NE Alberta St., Portland,  Cully Farm Store--the new location for Bridgetown Bees (across Alberta Street from U.S. Bank)

Old Sol Apiaries Nucs

Queen source: Hive bees raised in southern Oregon. You can choose nucs with either (1) Old Sol survivor stock queens (which have a diverse background that includes Russians, Caucasians, VSH breeders, Minnesota Hygienics, and, of course, a pinch of Carniolans and Italians) or (2) Caucasian queens. All Old Sol queens are double vetted, and all will be marked--this year the color is green.

Nucs from the first (and possibly second) pick-up date will have Oregon queens mated in California.

Price: $210 for nucs with survivor-stock queens, $230 for nucs with Caucasian queens. Each nuc box will include 4 frames of bees and stores, 1 frame feeder (a 1-gallon frame feeder with a cap and ladder system to prevent drowning and burr comb), and a 2019 marked queen (green) in a white corrugated plastic box. Please note: The price this year includes a $10 per nuc delivery charge, passed along from Old Sol. But if enough nucs are ordered, I will be able to reduce (or refund) this charge.

Down payment: $50 per nuc is required to reserve your nuc. The remaining balance is due at pick-up. (Place order through PayPal at the bottom of this page or email glen@bridgetownbees.com to make other payment arrangements)

Nuc box and box deposit: There is no deposit required and neither the box or feeder need to be returned.

Pick-up dates for Old Sol nucs:

·         First pick-up: Saturday, April 27, 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. We think this is a firm date, but if it changes, we will give you as much notice as possible.

·          Second pick-up: Saturday, May 18, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.

Number of frames: Four Langstroth (deep) frames of bees and stores, and a feeder.

SOLD OUT // Top Bar, Warre' and Medium-Frame langstroth Nucs

Sorry, we’ve reached our limit for now. More Top Bar, Warre’ and medium-frame nucs may be available for the end of May. Please email glen@bridgetownbees.com if you are interested.

****************************************************************************************************************************

YES, Bridgetown Bees will be offering a limited number of top bar, Warré, and medium frame Langstroth nucs. These nucs will be assembled by Bridgetown Bees, with local and other bees and Italian or Carniolan queens from Northern California.

Pick-up dates and location: All top bar, Warré, and medium frame Langstroth nuc pickups will be arranged individually with Glen and pick-up will likely be at his home apiary in NE Portland.

What is needed from you: For Top Bar and Warre’, just your top bars—that is all. There is so much variability in hive size—particularly top bar boxes—that you supplying your top bars is the safest method to assure a seamless transfer of top bars from my nuc box to your hive box! The more drawn comb that comes attached to your top bars, the better, but no drawn comb on the top bars will be OK. Typically, we need 8 to 10 top bars. For the Medium frame nucs, I will need 8 medium frames—the more drawn comb, the better. Contact glen@bridgetownbees.com to arrange a time to drop them off at his home apiary. Please be sure to put your name on the sack, box, or container that you bring your top bars/frames in.

What Bridgetown Bees provides: A newly mated Italian or Carniolan queen (not a Bridgetown Bees queen) and two to three pounds of bees in a top bar nuc box, a standard Warré box using your top bars, or an 8-frame medium Langstroth box. The amount of drawn comb will, of course, vary. A deposit on these boxes is required (see below).

When: Top bar, Warré, and medium frame Langstroth nucs will likely be available for pick-up beginning around May 1 or possibly the end of April. Please check back here for updates on timing.

Cost: $225 per nuc

Down payment: $50 per nuc is required to reserve your nuc. The remaining balance is due at pick-up.

Nuc box deposit: $40, and fully refundable when returned to Bridgetown Bees within three weeks.
